Heartbreaking News on UPS Accident: Death Toll Increases to 13

The total count of fatalities due to the transport jet that ignited and crashed has risen to 13, per official reports.

Official's Announcement

“On my way to the Workers’ vigil, I was informed of a 13th person that passed away as a outcome of the aircraft crash,” stated the local official in a public communication. “My prayers are with the loved ones, associates and peers of all who were lost in this recently occurred tragedy. We will get through this collectively.”

Victims Confirmed

An announcement from UPS listed the flight crew aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies are extended to each staff member who has been touched and everyone in our local community – helping you and ensuring you obtain the support and aid you need is our main concern,” the firm’s message expressed.

Probe Details

Federal investigators announced that the jet’s port side wing caught fire and an engine fell off shortly after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the plane to crash and explode into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is probing the plane’s service record, that was in the state for repairs a period ahead of the accident.

Aviation information indicated the jet was on the tarmac in the Texas city from early September to last week.

“We are aware that this aircraft was present in San Antonio,” stated an investigator on later, without a precise period. “We will examine every piece of repairs that was completed, even the repair period, right up to the day of the journey.”

Recovery of Key Evidence

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were recovered, and the engine was located on the airfield.

The recorders – called black boxes – were built to withstand accident forces and intense temperatures from infernos, and they seemed to be in one piece when located amid the crash debris. Investigators intend to reviewing data from the black boxes.

The plane’s concluding data recordings displayed an altitude of that level and a velocity of 210 mph ahead of the impact.

Maintenance Record

Based on aviation authority documents dated last month, a fracture on a component inside the tank area demanded repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which indicated it provides airframe maintenance for UPS’s MD-11 and manages a service location in San Antonio, chose not to provide remarks, but said it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities approached it.

Services Continue

At the same time, the facility services restarted Wednesday night with its express also known as night sort procedure, spokesperson the company official confirmed. The three runways at the airport were also reopened.

The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the company’s largest. The facility engages over a large number of workers in the area, manages 300 flights per day and processes more than 400,000 packages per hour.

Public Support

A gathering was conducted on the late afternoon of that date by the local worker’s group, which supports employees at the aviation hub, the organization’s biggest shipping facility.

The union chapter, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the memorial with a moment of silence at that time, the approximate time of the crash two days earlier.

“This event was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the official addressed the crowd of 200. “No one had a opportunity to say goodbye to each of those who we have lost.”
